No Ordinary Orchid

Hello there lovelies.

So this is going to be a bit of a random post but I didn’t sign a contract agreeing to blog exclusively about beauty products now did I.

I thought I’d keep todays post in-keeping with the Valentines theme, you see the orchid plant in the picture, Mr Beauty-Full (aka my husband) bought that for me for Valentines Day in 2011. Now not only is this remarkable because it’s still alive 3 years on and it was only guaranteed for 12 weeks but it’s that I’ve managed to keep it alive. My house is where plants come to die, you see, I’m terrible at keeping them alive but this ones managed to last. Now we don’t really do Valentines Day, we’ve been together nearly 14 years and married for nearly 10, so I think he kinda likes me, which is good because I quite like him too. We don’t need teddies holding hearts to prove our love for each other. This makes this orchid even more special as it was totally unexpected from him. And it’s still alive even though I’m its keeper- lady plant killer.

It’s no exaggeration- when my brother went travelling he questioned whether I could keep his cactus plant alive; I decided to take on the challenge. The care of the cactus came with T&C’s- if I kill it he don’t come home (no pressure then). Anyway Spike (that’s the cactus’ name) is still going strong and has taken up permanent residence in my bathroom. Maybe I can keep plants alive after all. I can’t be that bad as my brother also wanted to leave his iguana with me- an offer that I declined. Now it wasn’t that I wasn’t fond of Ralph (Lauren), yes that was his actual name, I didn’t really want a reptile so he went off to a type of retirement sanctuary for reptiles, he was rather old at about 15 years old and we’d had him from a baby when he was about 30cm long (he grew to about 6ft long) and he actually turned out to be a she but we kept the name Ralph so he didn’t develop a complex. Lauren as a name for an iguana just didn’t cut it. Wow I’ve digressed quite a bit. The point is I still have a very pretty plant that my husband got me for Valentines Day 3 years ago and I haven’t killed it, it still sits in pride of place on my kitchen window ledge.

Well there you have it, orchids, iguanas and a cactus. Random. Happy Valentines Day.

So do you kill plants like me? Do you have any special valentines gifts?

Until next time
